Extending Your Stay

  • Apply at least 30 days before your current status expires.
  • If you apply before your status expires, you may generally remain in Canada under your existing conditions while IRCC processes your application.
  • If your status has already expired, you may be able to apply to restore it within 90 days — act quickly.
  • A visitor record is not a visa. If you leave Canada, you may need a valid visitor visa to return.
  • Changing from study or work to visitor status is also done through a visitor record application.
